HW Edoku Presides Over Swearing-In Ceremony of Nurses, Midwives Council

The Registrar of Planning and Development, HW John Paul Edoku, today presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the new members of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
HW Edoku congratulated the 17 members upon their appointment and reminded them of the critical role they play in ensuring the health and well-being of Ugandans and other individuals in the country.
He noted that with the Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy, they had taken, they need to live to their obligations.
The Council is a statutory professional body responsible for the regulation of the Nursing profession in Uganda.
It exists to set and regulate standards of training and practice, register nurses and midwives and provide professional guidelines for public safety.
HW Edoku the inaugurated Council to follow the law which gives them the mandate of regulating and supervising the Nurses and Midwives and their training. Adding that they should act professionally and ethically without due influence from anybody.
He stressed the importance of having legal, regulatory, procedural and administrative frameworks in place to guide and regulate standards and operations of various nursing training schools.
He further mentioned the issue of courses of study for Nurses and Midwives which the Council should critically into and consider innovations and transformation taking place in modern times including advancement of information communications technology.
The Guest of Honour, the Minister of State in-charge of General Duties, Hon. Anifa Kawooya, commended the Council on their role. "We are all chosen by God to serve. When given the opportunity to lead, embrace it and serve the people with excellence. I commend you for voluntarily taking on this new responsibility alongside your existing duties," she said.
The Registrar Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, Ms. Nimwesiga Christine urged the new Governing Council to work diligently to advance the nursing and midwifery profession in Uganda.
